Many people cutting back on sugar turn to diet soda as an alternative to regular soda. If you do, you should ask is diet soda bad for you. While weight is a significant factor to good health, there are many other issues involved. For example, you can be the ideal weight for your age, gender and body type and still be extremely unhealthy.

Some of the illnesses associated with aspartame are seizures, breathing problems, memory loss, nausea, and headaches. Drinkers of diet soda are also at an increased risk of developing brain tumors, Parkinson's, diabetes, and epilepsy. Studies have confirmed that people who consume a lot of sugar substitutes run a higher risk of developing cancer and thyroid gland problems.

These increased health risks are a primary reason why Aspartame is banned by the European Food Safety Authority. The FDA originally banned aspartame, and then subsequently approved it at a later date. The corporate interests involved in this decision makes one ask whether they had profits in mind or whether the aspartame contained in diet soda is bad for you.

In addition to the health risks due to aspartame, soda, diet or regular, is also extremely acidic, with a pH level of around 3.4 If you drink soda to quench your thirst you may not have enough saliva to break down the acidity in the soda. Long term drinking of soda can therefore contribute to tooth decay.

If you are still asking is diet soda bad for you I must say yes it is. The health benefit of less sugar is far outweighed by the negative effects of other more toxic ingredients. If you currently drink regular or diet soda, you would improve your health significantly if you replace it with more healthy beverages.

    That's right. Soda is totally an unhealthy drink. It can decrease your bone density and also degrades your bone if your drink it frequently.
    So please replace your soda-drinking habit with healthy natural juice. Natural juice is totally healthier compared to soda. :)
